Updated Description (Apple Maps– and GBP‑friendly) Lisa Newman, MD, MPH is a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer care, with a distinguished clinical, research, and leadership career. She serves as Chief of the Section of Breast Surgery at NewYork‑Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine. At the NewYork‑Presbyterian David H. Koch Center, Dr. Newman leads the multidisciplinary breast oncology programs, providing comprehensive, compassionate care through advanced screening, imaging, surgical, reconstructive, and radiation therapies. She also oversees breast surgical oncology services across NewYork‑Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and Queens. Prior to joining Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Newman held senior leadership roles at the University of Michigan, where she was Professor of Surgery, Director of the Breast Care Center, and Program Director of the Breast Fellowship, and later served as Director of the Breast Program for Henry Ford Health System in Michigan. She is the Founding Medical Director of the International Center for the Study of Breast Cancer Subtypes, now headquartered at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Newman earned her MPH and undergraduate degree from Harvard University, completed medical school and general surgery residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, and pursued surgical oncology fellowship training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she remains an Adjunct Professor. Her research focuses on breast cancer disparities, high‑risk patient management, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and innovative surgical techniques. Dr. Newman is widely published, has been featured as a national breast cancer expert in major media outlets, and serves as Chief National Medical Advisor to Sisters Network Inc. She leads international breast cancer research and training initiatives across Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Newman has received numerous national honors and holds leadership and editorial roles across prominent oncology and public health organizations.
