Jennifer Kristina Svahn, MD, FACS, FSVS is a long-standing member of the Katz Institute for Women's Health and a distinguished vascular surgeon with 28 years of dedicated practice, specializing in the comprehensive treatment of venous diseases. As Director of Vein Surgery at Union Square and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Dr. Svahn is at the forefront of providing advanced care for patients experiencing venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, venous ulcers, and leg swelling.Dr. Svahn's expertise extends to a wide range of venous conditions, including pelvic vein disease, lymphedema, and chronic venous insufficiency. She is adept at utilizing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedures performed under local anesthesia, offering patients effective and comfortable treatment options. Her commitment to patient care is further demonstrated through her leadership in an IAC-certified Vein Center, where she employs advanced techniques for the treatment of venous disease.A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, Dr. Svahn completed her General Surgery residency at New York University School of Medicine. Her specialized training includes a research fellowship in Plastic Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a subsequent fellowship in Vascular Surgery at New York University School of Medicine, providing her with a unique and comprehensive understanding of vascular health.Dr. Svahn is the creator and director of the SWELL Program (Services for Women's Edema of the Lower Limbs) within the Katz Institute for Women's Health (KIWH). This program is specifically designed to assess and treat the complex causes of lower extremity swelling in women, highlighting her dedication to addressing a critical health concern. As one of the few Associate Professors of Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, she contributes significantly to the education of future medical professionals and the advancement of surgical knowledge.
