Christopher B. Anderson, MD, MPH, is the Given Foundation Associate Professor of Urology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a leading urologic oncologist specializing in the management of genitourinary malignancies, including bladder, prostate, testis, and kidney cancers. Dr. Anderson received his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed his urology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He subsequently completed a urologic oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, at which time he also earned a Master of Public Health from Harvard University. He currently serves as Director of the Division of Urologic Oncology and performs both open and robotic surgery. Dr. Anderson is also at the forefront of organ preservation for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers, widely utilizing active surveillance for appropriately selected patients. He is involved in several clinical trials and has contributed to national guideline development. Dr. Anderson is committed to patient-centered care, taking time to understand each patient’s priorities and treatment goals. He employs a multidisciplinary approach to cancer management, incorporating a variety of approaches to develop an individualized treatment plan, including surveillance, radiation, systemic therapy, and targeted therapy. An accomplished academic, Dr. Anderson has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His research focuses on treatment decision-making, quality of care, and innovations in surgical education. He serves as an Assistant Editor for The Journal of Urology and is a reviewer for multiple leading journals in the field. In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Anderson is the Residency Program Director for the Department of Urology, where he plays a central role in training the next generation of urologists. Recognized for excellence in teaching and mentorship, he received the Columbia University Department of Urology Resident Teaching Award. Dr. Anderson is board certified in urology and is a member of the American Urological Association.
