Description

Gwendolyn Reeve, DMD, FACS is Vice Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry and Program Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and an Associate Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.Dr. Reeve is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon practicing the full scope of adult and pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery. Her clinical expertise includes facial trauma and reconstruction, orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery, surgical management of obstructive sleep apnea, craniofacial pathology, and complex dentoalveolar surgery. She also performs office-based oral surgery procedures under intravenous sedation, including dental extractions, dental implants, and biopsies.Dr. Reeve completed her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, where she served as Chief Resident, and her general dentistry residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.Dr. Reeve leads a highly active translational and clinical research program focused on TMJ disorders, orofacial pain, regenerative medicine, and imaging biomarkers. She is Principal Investigator of a multi-million-dollar NIH HEAL R61/R33 grant investigating photobiomodulation for quantitative assessment of myofascial pain, as well as multiple industry- and foundation-funded studies. She has led multicenter clinical trials evaluating botulinum toxin for myofascial pain disorders and cannabinoids (CBD) for TMJ-related pain. Additional research interests include stem cell biology of the TMJ, synovial biomarkers predicting outcomes of TMJ arthroscopy, craniofacial implant design, and the oral biology of electronic cigarette use. Her work is highly collaborative and spans partnerships with Otolaryngology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Neuroradiology, and Genetic Medicine.Dr. Reeve is Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. She serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, is a member of the AAOMS Committee on Education and Training, and is a site examiner for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.Her scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, national presentations, and book chapters. She serves as a reviewer for leading surgical journals and is actively involved in national surgical education initiatives. She is a graduate of the Weill Cornell Healthcare Leadership Fellowship and has completed executive leadership training through Harvard University and the Cleveland Clinic.Dr. Reeve is the recipient of multiple honors, including the OMS Foundation Clinical Research Award, the Daniel M. Laskin Award for the most outstanding manuscript published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the AAOMS Faculty Educator Development Award, and multiple Attending of the Year awards.
