Jim C. Hu, M.D., M.P.H. is an internationally recognized urologic oncologist and surgical innovator specializing in prostate and kidney cancer. He is the Ronald P. Lynch Chair in Urologic Oncology, Director of the LeFrak Center for Robotic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, and serves as Vice‑Chair of Clinical Research and Chair of Quality and Patient Safety in the Department of Urology. Dr. Hu earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, his Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, and completed urology residency at UCLA, followed by advanced fellowship training in robotic surgery and urologic oncology at City of Hope National Medical Center. He has held leadership roles at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana‑Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, and UCLA prior to joining Weill Cornell in 2015. A leader in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, Dr. Hu has performed more than 4, 000 laparoscopic, robotic, and open procedures. His research focuses on improving outcomes and quality of life for men with prostate cancer and has been funded by the National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, PCORI, and other national organizations. He has authored over 300 peer‑reviewed publications, including studies published in The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Journal of Clinical Oncology, and is frequently cited by major national media outlets. Dr. Hu offers advanced treatments including robotic prostatectomy, focal therapy, MRI‑targeted biopsy, and HIFU, and is widely regarded for combining technical excellence with patient‑centered care.
