Alexandre Buckley De Meritens, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Following residency, he spent two years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducting ovarian cancer research, and completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia and Cornell. Dr. Buckley specializes in the surgical management and chemotherapy of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. His expertise also includes minimally invasive surgery, including conventional laparoscopy and robotic-assisted procedures, as well as complex abdominal and pelvic surgeries. He is committed to advancing both established chemotherapy approaches and innovative therapies, with a strong focus on optimizing patient outcomes and preserving quality of life throughout treatment. Dr. Buckley also serves as co-director of the Placenta Accreta Spectrum Center. In this role, he has helped implement innovative approaches such as One Step Conservative Surgery, offering uterine-preserving treatment options.
