Description

In 1953, Dr. Mark Fromer’s stepfather, Dr. Alfred Mamelok, first opened the 115 E. 61st Street office in New York City. In 1988, Mark Fromer, M.D. joined the practice, followed by his sister, Dr. Susan Fromer in 2000. Over the years many advances in ophthalmology have taken place and Fromer Eye Centers have taken an active role in bringing excellence in eye care to the New York area. Fromer Eye Centers provides comprehensive eye care utilizing state of the art modalities and treatment options. Our physicians are board-certified ophthalmologists and optometrists who have earned national reputations as top clinicians and educators.

    Ophthalmologists Mark Fromer, M.D. Dr. Mark Fromer specializes in retinal diseases, cataract surgery and laser vision correction procedures including LASIK and photo-refractive keratectomy. He performs Femto Laser cataract surgery and has been performing laser surgery for glaucoma, diabetic retinal disease, and age related diseases of the retina since 1988.   • Susan Fromer

    MD

    Dr. Susan Fromer is an ophthalmologist who specializes in the treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, and laser vision correction. She graduated with honors from Rutgers University. She went on to receive her medical degree at NYU Medical School. She then completed a medical internship at Lenox Hill Hospital and residency training at St Vincent's Hospital. She has done additional training in cornea and laser refractive surgery at Mercy Hospital. She has been board-certified since 1992. In 2004, Dr. Fromer was an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital where she was a resident instructor, training the residents in ophthalmic surgery. Dr. Susan Fromer was preceptor for a glaucoma fellowship with Dr. Maurice Luntz at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York.   • Dr. Brandon B. Johnson

    Dr. Johnson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Haverford College where he double majored in Biology and Music. He then received his Doctor of Medicine from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, a top three medical school, where he was awarded for outstanding research. After a one-year internship in general surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Johnson completed an ophthalmology residency at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, which has been the best ranked ophthalmology residency program in the United States. He then completed a fellowship in vitroretinal surgery at the prestigious Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Johnson speaks fluent English and Spanish.

  • Brian Brazzo

    MD

    Dr. Brian Brazzo is a board-certified ophthalmologist whose scope of practice includes the most advanced techniques in plastic surgery. He specializes in oculoplastic surgery, which combines cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and tear duct system. Dr. Brazzo is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his post-graduate training in ophthalmology at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, and was an American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Fellow at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. Dr. Brazzo is currently a clinical ophthalmologist at Weill Medical College in New York and Director of Oculoplastics services at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. He is on the staff of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and serves as an attending physician at New York - Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Brazzo is also currently active in ophthalmic research.     MD

    Dr. Rebecca Shields is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. Her expertise is in the medical treatment and surgical management of glaucoma, including both laser and incisional surgery. Dr. Shields is trained in the latest and most advanced techniques of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Dr. Shields received her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University with honors. She completed her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and was inducted into the National Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). Dr. Shields completed her residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. She then completed her glaucoma fellowship training at The Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University.   • David Rubaltelli

    MD

    Dr. David Rubaltelli is an ophthalmologist who specializes in vitreoretinal diseases. Dr. Rubaltelli graduated from Jefferson Medical College and completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Dr. Rubaltelli completed a two year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Schepens Retina Associates and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary located in Boston, Massachusetts. He was also the Chief Resident in Ophthalmology at the Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Rubaltelli has been a phase III clinical sub-investigator of a sustained release Dexamethasone compound for macular edema, and investigated the anatomical and functional changes in patients with choroidal neovascularization secondary to Age Related Macular Degeneration after treatment with intravitreal Avastin. In addition, he has a strong surgical interest in complex retinal detachment surgery and utilizes advanced vitreoretinal surgical techniques such as wide angle viewing and small gauge vitrectomy.

    Dr. June Choi earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry. She completed her clinical training with an emphasis on ocular diseases at Brooklyn Eye Center, City Eye MD, NYC Retina, and East New York Diagnostic & Treatment Center.   • Rebecca Rojas

    Dr. Rebecca Rojas earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University. She completed her residency training in Ocular Disease at SUNY College of Optometry and Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to joining Fromer Eye Centers, she worked as a clinical optometrist at the Cleveland Clinic Eye Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Here she provided comprehensive eye exams and specialty contact lens fittings to patients with complex ocular surface diseases and conditions such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, post-surgical corneal ectasias, and corneal transplants, ocular trauma, post-intacs, and severe dry eye. In addition, she has worked closely with refractive and corneal specialists to manage pre- and post-operative care for corneal collagen cross-linking, cataracts, and refractive surgery patients. Dr. Rojas is a member of the Eye and Contact Lens Association, Scleral Lens Education Society, and earned her Fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry. She has presented posters at academic meetings and delivered COPE-approved lectures.   • Elsa Sheerer

    Dr. Elsa Sheerer received her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry. She completed her residency training in pediatric optometry at SUNY College of Optometry and Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, New York. She specializes in diagnosis and treatment of various ocular and visual conditions affecting the pediatric population such as amblyopia, strabismus, and refractive error. She also manages pediatric ocular disease. In addition to performing comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, Dr. Sheerer also enjoys providing eye care to children and adults with special needs such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and autism. Dr. Sheerer is a member of the American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry (AAO), College of Optometrists in Visual Development (COVD). She completed her clinical training in the Minnesota Eye Consultants in Minnesota, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in California, Whiteriver Hospital on the Apache Reservation in Arizona and the Vision Therapy, Pediatrics, Contact Lenses and Low Vision Clinics at the Eye Care Center in California. She then completed her residency in Ocular Disease with emphasis in co-managing anterior and posterior segment pathology, glaucoma, oculoplastics, strabismus, pediatrics, low vision and specialty contact lens fittings at Fromer Eye Centers in New York. She provides comprehensive and medical eye care for all ages, including InfantSEE® exams, pediatrics, low vision, and specialty contact lenses fittings for ocular surface disease, keratoconus, irregular corneas and aphakia.   • Emily Topi

    OD

    r. Emily Topi earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry. Her clinical training includes the Kansas City VA Medical Center with an emphasis in ocular disease and low vision. She also completed training in pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Health Clinics in Kansas City as well as interned at multiple inner-city community health clinics in St. Louis, MO.     Dr. Thuy Tran earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. She completed her clinical training at VA West Los Angeles, Indian Health Services Hospital in New Mexico and BG Crawford F. Sams U.S. Army Health Clinic in Japan. Her training included emphasis in treatment and co-management of glaucoma, retinal vascular diseases and anterior segment pathology. She provides comprehensive eye care for all ages and has special interest in pediatrics, including children with Downs Syndrome, Autism and ADHD. She is a provider for InfantSEE®.     Dr. Elizabeth Yusupov earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry in New York. She completed her clinical training at West Point Military Academy providing services to cadets, soldiers, family members and retirees of the United States Army. Additionally she completed an ocular disease based externship at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, with an emphasis on retinal disease, glaucoma and anterior segment pathology.   • Lenora Rivera

    Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner

    Lenora Rivera specializes in Adult Primary Care. She received her undergraduate degree in nursing from the College of Mount St. Vincent in 2003 and began her nursing career at New York Presbyterian Cornell as a Critical Care RN in the surgical department. She served as charge nurse and mentor for Cornell’s first new RN mentorship program. Lenora then received her graduate degree from NYU in 2009. Focused on underserved populations, she completed the majority of her clinical rotations providing medical care for the homeless and prison population. Lenora began her Nurse Practitioner career in Occupational Health, providing employee health services for a large retail company. She also managed a 37 bedded medical/surgical unit at Lenox Hill Hospital and was awarded a Nursing Innovator Leadership award. While still at Lenox Hill, Lenora joined the Quality Management Department as the Sepsis Coordinator and Rapid Response /Code Team quality specialist. Just before joining Fromer Eye, Lenora was manager and Nurse Practitioner at a busy clinic providing pre-employment and annual work clearances. Lenora is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, American Association of Critical Care Nurses and American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She is BCLS,ACLS certified.
