    Master Barber/Owner

Years ago, I worked in IT, and I was pretty good at it. But after a while I realized that I needed to think about another career; one that dealt with people and not with information systems. When I was younger I learned how to cut hair, and that isn’t something you can ever forget how to do, like riding a bike. Eddie’s has now been my own shop for over fifteen years, and six days a week I take great pride in welcoming people, giving great haircuts and shaves, and maintaining the high standard of customer service. I’m on a First Name Basis with most of our clients. If I don’t know your name, it’s probably because you haven’t told me (yet) what it is. But when you do, you can be sure that I won’t forget it.

Most barbers will tell you that from the time they were young, that all they wanted to do was to cut hair and do shaves, and that working in a Manhattan barber shop has been part of a life-long dream. And while that may be true of most, it was not my experience, as being a barber was probably the furthest thing from my mind. My entire family worked as barbers and hair stylists, and I was determined to do something completely different, but, as we all recognize, sometimes things work out just the opposite of what we expect and before I knew it I, too was following in the family tradition — and I love it. Today I have over 25 years of experience and I have never looked back.

What is the difference between a barber and a photographer? If you answered “ quite a lot ”, that would be true in most cases -– just not in mine. You see, it wasn’t all that long ago when I was a very accomplished photographer, but getting steady work in the city proved to be a challenge, as I was competing for jobs with many other talented people. So I decided that a career change was in order, and realized that my photographer’s “ eye ” could be put to good use if I were to become a barber. For weeks I resisted actually enrolling in “ Barber School”, as I felt that it would really signal the end of me as a photographer. And although it did, now it’s fourteen years later, and I don’t regret it one bit. I’m a pretty good barber, and I still take pretty good pictures.
