Hello my name is Miguel Maya and I am a licensed acupuncturist. I am a native New Yorker and a graduate from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Manhattan with a masters in Oriental Medicine. I have been practicing acupuncture and oriental medicine full time for eight years and see on average 40-50 patients a week between my two practices. I am very interested in treating musculoskeletal disorders as I have seen the quickest improvement in this branch of conditions using acupuncture and Chinese medicine. A typical treatment session will include acupuncture, sometimes with electrical stimulation, heat lamps, gentle massage or tui na to stimulate blood flow into the area along with application of herbal topical liniments for continued healing throughout the day and night. Acupuncture treats a great variety of conditions. When I first graduated hardly any insurances would pick up acupuncture. Nowadays however I am glad to report that acupuncture has gained such wide acceptance here in the United States that many pre-authorizations do go through with patients receiving eligible benefits from their insurance carrier. For those patients who are not eligible for insurance coverage I will work with them on a sliding scale basis.
