  • DIEP Breast Reconstruction

The DIEP procedure uses microsurgical techniques, transferring tissue and blood vessels from your abdomen to your breasts. The existing blood vessels are cut and reattached to new blood vessels in your chest, keeping the new breast tissue alive and healthy throughout your life. The transplanted tissue is living, natural tissue that looks, feels, moves, and ages like your original breasts, which allows for the most natural-appearing results after mastectomy.

  • Implant Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Lerman is a recognized leader in breast reconstruction and cosmetic procedures of the face, breast, and body. He is the director of breast reconstruction at Lenox Hill Hospital's Institute for Comprehensive Breast Care, as well as the Microvascular and Cosmetic Breast Fellowship, where he oversees the training of the next generation of DIEP flap breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgeons. Through his experience and continued training, Dr. Lerman can reconstruct your breasts to get them back to looking and feeling natural.

  • Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck can greatly improve the contours of the stomach. What a tummy tuck cannot do, however, is replace the healthy eating habits and regular physical activity necessary to regulate your body weight. A suitable candidate for the procedure is in good physical health, is not overweight, and has realistic expectations for the results of their tummy tuck. The permanent success of an abdominoplasty can be compromised by fluctuations in weight, so if you plan to lose weight, or are considering becoming pregnant in the future, we highly recommend waiting to undergo the procedure.

  • BRCA+ and Prophylactic Mastectomy

Dr. Lerman has dedicated his career to helping women feel whole again after breast reconstruction due to a positive BRCA test. His work is regularly acknowledged by prestigious publications such as The New York Times Magazine, New York's "Best Doctors" list, and more. He regularly lectures and trains medical students with the goal of building the next generation of reconstruction surgeons. He has also written more than 40 original articles, abstracts, and book chapters on plastic and reconstructive surgery. If you have a BRCA mutation and are considered to be at high risk of developing breast cancer, our practice can help guide you through your options.

  • Liposuction

This surgical method of removing fat deposits can complement a healthy lifestyle by adding attractive definition to your body lines. In general, candidates should be in good health, and within 20 pounds of their ideal body weight. Patients should bear in mind that liposuction is not a weight loss solution. Instead, it can provide an attractive aesthetic complement to a healthy lifestyle. For the right patient, liposuction can help clothing fit better, make you look and feel more comfortable in your bathing suit, and improve your self-confidence. Ultimately, choosing to have liposuction or body contouring surgery is about helping you achieve the goals that you might otherwise have been unable to reach with diet and exercise alone.

  • Nipple Reconstruction

Nipple reconstruction is the surgical process of recreating the nipple after a mastectomy to treat breast cancer. Many patients will first undergo autologous breast reconstruction, or flap reconstruction, where the plastic surgeon transfers a flap of living tissue to the chest to create the breast mound. If flap reconstruction is not right for you, breast implants are also an option to restore the appearance of breast tissue. The final step in breast reconstruction is repairing the nipple. Nipple reconstruction is a two-part process. The first is a small procedure to create the elevated appearance of the nipple projection from a flap of the patient's own skin. After this heals, we move onto the next step, 3D tattooing. We work with specialized tattoo artists who have experience in creating realistic nipple dimensions and areola definition.

  • TUG and PAP Flap Breast Reconstruction

While DIEP is a popular breast reconstruction technique, patients who are slender or who have undergone abdominal surgery before typically do not have enough fat tissue to harvest. In such cases, transverse upper gracilis (TUG) and profunda artery perforator (PAP) flap surgeries may be recommended. Both surgeries use harvested tissue from one or both inner thighs. The major difference between the TUG and PAP flap procedures is the type of tissue harvested. While the PAP flap harvests only fatty tissue, TUG flap harvests both fatty and muscle tissue.

  • Masectomy

Either immediately after mastectomy or at a later time, Dr. Lerman can perform reconstruction by placing implants or through autologous reconstruction (using the patient's own tissue to rebuild the breast mound) for one or both breasts. Dr. Lerman has extensive training and experience in breast reconstruction, including microvascular techniques that make transferring tissue to the breast mound less invasive, with a shorter recovery period than traditional methods. These techniques make it possible to connect the tissue to blood vessels at the surgical site, rather than having to keep the original blood vessels intact. Dr. Oren Lerman works with oncologists and other healthcare providers to help his patients achieve the most satisfying mastectomy results possible.

  • Transgender Surgery

Dr. Lerman has trained at some of the most prestigious plastic surgery programs in the country. He can create a masculine physique or soften your appearance for a more feminine look using the most advanced plastic surgery procedures available. Because of his specialized training and skill, he is regularly recognized as a top plastic surgeon by New York publications and the prestigious Castle Connolly peer-reviewed listing. His expertise dovetails with the needs of patients looking to create a closer alignment between their identity and physical appearance. Meanwhile, his expansive repertoire allows him to offer a variety of choices to his transgender patients. He will work with you to select individual treatments or create custom combinations that can help you attain a body you feel comfortable in. Dr. Lerman and his team in Manhattan, New York, will work closely with you as you continue your gender-affirming transition.

  • Restoring Sensation with Nerve Grafts

To help restore sensation, Dr. Lerman re-innervates the flap by reconnecting a severed nerve with a nerve allograft at the time of natural tissue flap surgery. By reconnecting the nerves, Dr. Lerman gives the body the best possible opportunity for the nerve to regrow and help provide sensation to the reconstructed breast. Although there will always be some numbness after mastectomy, the potential sensation return achievable after natural tissue breast reconstruction is dramatic. Nerves take time to heal, so patients can expect to start regain feeling several months after the procedure. Feeling in the breast can continue developing for up to two years.
