Are you experiencing several problems with your teeth and/or gums? If so, you might require multiple procedures to improve your oral health and well-being. With the availability of a full mouth reconstruction, we can help restore your teeth and oral health. The first goal of treatment with a full mouth reconstruction is to improve function, and any cosmetic benefits that may result will remain a secondary goal.
Indirect Dental Restoration refers to the restoration of a tooth by use of an inlay, crown or onlay. These restorations are named indirect, because they require more than one visit to complete, often with the use of a dental lab. If the dentist has use of a CAD or CEREC equipment, the procedure can be completed in one visit.
Direct Dental Restoration – refers to the restoration of a tooth immediately after performing dental work. Often used to fill a cavity, the dentist will use a dental filling to insert a malleable material into the tooth, harden the material with the use of a blue light, and then shape and polish that material to match the rest of the teeth.
If you have been diagnosed with periodontal (gum) disease, your dentist might recommend periodontal dentistry. The purpose of periodontal dentistry is to remove the disease to improve your oral health. Let’s look at three different types of periodontal dentistry:
Gingival Flap Surgery – If pockets are greater than 5 millimeters in depth, the procedure would be performed to reduce the periodontal pockets. Gum tissue will be cut from the teeth to conduct a thorough deep cleaning.
Gingivectomy – This type of periodontal surgery will be conducted to remove excess gum tissue that may be overgrown on the teeth. In doing so, it can provide a better area to clean the teeth.
Gingivoplasty – Lastly, this next periodontal surgery reshapes the healthy gum tissue. If someone has tooth recession where the gum is pushed away from the tooth, gingivoplasty can also be performed.
After the periodontal surgery is performed, it is important to properly clean the teeth and gum tissue with a toothbrush and an antimicrobial mouth rinse.
A dental filling is a procedure used by a dentist when he/she is removing a cavity. The dentist will drill around the decayed area in the tooth to remove the cavity and then ‘fill’ in the removed space with a dental filling. Because the materials used to create fillings are meant to mimic the look and durability of teeth, they can also be used to repair chipped or broken teeth.
After the material is inserted into the cavity, the dentist will use instruments to shape it into the rough shape of the desired tooth. The dentist will shape the tooth to look natural, matching the color and shape of the other teeth, thereby unaffecting the patient’s smile. Using a special ‘blue light,’ the dentist will harden the material in a matter of seconds, and then shape and polish the hardened material to complete the restoration.
TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint, and it is a hinge that joins your jaw to the temporal bones of the skull. This joint allows you to move your jaw side to side and up and down so that you can chew, talk or yawn conveniently. In some cases, there can be problem with the facial muscles and jaw that controls the problem are called the temporomandibular disorder or the temporomandibular joint disorder.
Dental extractions mean removing the tooth from its place in the bone. Extractions are done in dental offices by the dentist or dental surgeon (a dentist with surgery specialization), under local or general anesthesia. Professional extractions are recommended when the tooth decay is severe, and nothing can be done to save the tooth, when the tooth is affected by infection or is vulnerable to infection, because of a gum disease or a health condition.
We need our teeth to eat properly, so when one is damaged it can take a toll on your day-to-day life. In order to continue to protect your teeth and overall well-being, it is important to repair damaged teeth. At our office, dental crowns are utilized to perform the following:
Cover dental implants
Prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse
Restore an existing filling in jeopardy of becoming loose or dislocated
Looking for an improved appearance for your smile? When applied to discolored or stained teeth needing restoration, dental crowns provide the appearance of natural teeth.
When multiple teeth are missing, what are your options? While there might be numerous procedures available, some might cost more than you are willing to pay. It is important to understand your best options for restoring your smile when multiple teeth are missing. One option to consider is dental bridges.
What are Dental Bridges?
