• Performance Therapy

  Initial Assessment During your Initial Assessment, your performance therapist will talk to you about your injury or reason for your visit. Your PT will also conduct an injury risk profile, in which they will consider you as an individual as well as the modifiable extrinsic factors that can minimize your risk of injury and optimize your performance! We plan with the end in mind. Your PT will focus on measurements that contribute to determining factors that predispose the athlete to injury and the factors that the athlete can modify through proper holistic planning. Common measurements taken during a physical therapy examination include: Palpation Range of motion (ROM) measurements General Warning Index Individual Specific Warning Index Movement assessment Athletic Qualities Assessment Neurological screening tests Individualized Programming During your initial assessment, your PT will have compiled a list of the major risk factors based upon your risk index and movement profile. This will help develop a plan that will decrease your pain, improve your mobility, restore tissue capacity, and get you back to doing the activities enjoy. Your PT will discuss with you the goals of treatment and the expected course of your rehab. Your performance therapist may start your plan of care after your initial assessment. Final Assessment This will always be an ongoing process as the athlete will constantly be entering or leaving various risk groups according to how the athlete is physically and mentally adapting to therapy. The final assessment will consist of objective tests and measures that will provide an integrated understanding of the athlete's current physical capabilities. This will provide important criteria for determining whether the athlete can return to performance safely.

• Rehab Integration

  Using the foundations of strength, recovering athletes will move within the foundational athletic movement patterns at varying loads and speeds in order to prepare the athlete to return to their sport. As the athlete moves into the final phase of the continuum, the athlete's program will become more specific to the demands of their sport. The sport will have unique demands on multiple bodily systems, ranging from the cardiovascular system to the energy system requirements of each sport. There will also be sport and position specific skills and motor patterns that the athlete will need to exude competency in before they return to competition. Pain as a result of injury can affect movement and can lead to an athlete favoring the non-injured side long after acute symptoms are no longer present. As an athletes is recovering from an injury, achieves full physical function, and begins sports specific drills, it is now time to determine a return to competition timeline. The ADPT 3 step return-to-competition plan CREATE THE PLAN We work backward from the date we outline for an athlete to return to competition and set up milestones along the way. This will give the athlete enough time to gradually increase the intensity, duration, and frequency of the activities. This will also allow us to adjust the return to play date accordingly in the event that an athlete does not hit one of the milestones. COORDINATION OF CARE There will be constant communication between all the parties involved. We will communicate with your head coach, medical personal, family, and the athlete to frequently update them with reasons for any decisions that is made that might affect the timeline to return to competition. STICK TO THE PLAN The athlete is the priority! The athlete will be progressed or regressed along the continuum according to the progress that is being made.

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT Everything starts with the assessment. Every athletic profile should be relevant to the sport and position. The assessment will provide an understanding of the athlete's current physical capabilities. We have to know where you are starting from athletically to give you the best chance of success. INDIVIDUALZIED PROGRAMMING Individual Programs will always have the best success. We take an integrated systems approach that considers how all underpinning strength and power qualities, movement qualities, relevant environmental factors, and associated cardiovascular demands of the sport and position. That is key to developing a program that works! CUSTOMIZED COACHING Every athlete moves and learns differently, and therefore needs to be coached differently. We understand the principals of motor learning, skill acquisition, and the processes involved to effectively coach in order to accelerate learning and performance. We focus on who we are coaching, how we are coaching, and what it is that we are coaching. Our Assessments were designed from the most advanced orthopedic, physiology, biomechanics, and bio-psychosocial models that have been deemed valid and reliable. Do not be forced to do an exercise that's not well suited for you.

• Youth Athletic Development

  Physical literacy can be related to the educational process of when a student first learns to write. A young student first learns to write words. The student will then learn to put these words into sentences. By putting together sentences, the student will be able to produce simple paragraphs and learn to adapt its use to a range of academic and normal everyday life. Sports performance is similar! The youth athlete will learn the primary skills and techniques like running, jumping, throwing, and catching. The youth athlete will then learn to combine these skills like running and throwing, running and jumping, catching, and running. After a while, the youth athlete will start to develop complex skills that will further aid in reducing the risk of injury and improving performance. As the youth athlete develops increased physical capabilities, the athlete will be able to express the skills he or she has! The athlete becomes more physically literate! Research has also shown that an inability to catch will reduce a child’s confidence so much that it can deter the child from taking part in over 40 different activities! Our goal is to strengthen the community through the development of youth athletes with an emphasis on athletics, wellness, and academic excellence. KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL LONG-TERM ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT Long-term athletic development programs should accommodate for the highly individualized and non-linear nature of the growth and development of youth. Youth of all ages, abilities, and aspirations should engage in long-term athletic development programs that promote both physical fitness and psychosocial wellbeing. All youth should be encouraged to enhance physical fitness from early childhood, with a primary focus on motor skill and muscular strength development. The health and wellbeing of the youth athlete should always be the central component of long-term athletic development program. The youth athlete should participate in physical activities that help reduce the risk of injury to ensure their on-going participation in sport. The youth athlete will be provided with a range of training modes to enhance both health and skill related components of fitness. The youth athlete will be consistently monitored an assessed using relevant tools as a part of a long term physical development strategy. The program of the youth athlete will be individualized, systematically, and pedagogically progressed for successful short and long term athletic development.
